What Happens During a Free Medication Review

If you take more than a couple of medications, a free medication review with your Kanata pharmacist is one of the most useful 20 minutes you can spend on your health — and most people don't realize it's available at no cost.
What is a medication review?
A medication review is a one-on-one sit-down with a pharmacist to go through everything you take — prescriptions, over-the-counter products, vitamins and supplements. The goal is simple: make sure your medications are working together safely, doing what they should, and not costing you more than they need to.
At our Kanata pharmacy, medication reviews are free. You don't need a doctor's referral — just ask.
Why bother? Five things a review can catch
- Interactions between medications (or with supplements) you didn't know about
- Duplicate therapy — two products doing the same job
- Doses that could be simplified or timed better
- Cheaper alternatives or generics that work just as well
- Side effects you've been putting up with that don't need to be there
What to expect at your review
- Bring everything. All your medication bottles, plus any vitamins and supplements.
- We'll talk it through. The pharmacist asks how you're taking each one and how you're feeling.
- You get a clear plan. Notes on what to keep, what to ask your doctor about, and how to simplify your routine — sometimes with blister packs.
How to ask for one
- Call (613) 435-2111 and ask to set up a medication review
- Or mention it next time you're picking up a prescription at 329 March Road
Especially valuable for seniors
If you're managing several chronic conditions, the number of medications can creep up over the years — often prescribed by different doctors who don't see the full picture. Your pharmacist does. A regular medication review is one of the best ways to keep that list lean, safe and working for you.
